Not much I can add this week. It's fun to read the guesses about the backgrounds I've posted. Here's another by Wei Zhao. Several sequences use an extremely limited palette similar to what Mike and Dave Stewart use in the Hellboy comics. There's a before and after effect in the sequence above. When an evil entity makes its move, the sequence turns a desaturated purple, almost black and white. We're not trying to be literal; in fact, some of our coolest moments are when we don't worry about logic and go for impact.
We've added Kim Bitsui as a color stylist, as promised last week. All those creative color shifts result in almost doubling the workload. Meanwhile, I've seen more than half the first movie as a production animatic (no bells and whistles, no music, no sound fx). We have to be finished next Thursday because the computer network will be taken out of commission. Tomorrow I'll get the second third of the second movie as storyboard roughs. That film is definitely benefiting from our experience on the first one.
But in the midst of all this we're packing our offices for the move to our new building at the end of next week. Looks pretty slick and everyone is anxious make the move. In the meantime, an elevator motor blew out here yesterday, knocking out the power and nearly starting a fire. We evacuated and ended up leaving early. Plenty of time to hit the comic shop and pick up the new Hellboy comic. Have you? -- Tad
BTW, have you been reading the comments. Some of my replies are as long as my posts. They're not brilliant or anything, I just want credit for the wordcount!
Any luck you'll give us a preview of the desaturated background? It sounds cool.
And good luck with the move!

Is there any chance that we could get a larger version of that image? That would be a dynamite desktop background.
I've got an ice cold Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper here if that'll help sweeten the deal for you.

Dan - I added the desaturated BG although it still needs tweaking. And, as you can see, it not so desaturated as it is purple.
Tratch - I keep the resolution limited on these postings so that pages don't take forever to load. But you did click on the image to get the larger image, I trust?
And my vice is Diet Coke. I drink waaaay too much of it. I'm sure I'm mutating on the inside. My exterior mutation is another matter entirely.

Tad - I was thinking more along the lines of 1280x1024 but I'll take what I can get. :)
Everything looks great so far, by the way. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Hey - love to read/see what you guys are doing with Hellboy.
I have a question: Could you tell us which known characters we can expect to see animated? Hellboy, Abe and Liz are diffenantly there ... but who else?

Hi! I read in a Magazine (from México) that Cartoon Network was airing this movies when they come out. I never read anything like that here so I think that's rubbish or I don't know where that rumor started.
Any help? :D
Keep Up the Good Work.
