Cool sketches. I think his hairstyle should retain his black-haired look. :)

I like it when you blog on your creative insights.

I wish I would totally dive into developing my own comic book/graphic novel ideas too (I got at least 3 that I wish I could do). But right now, I've been drawing more and more funnies/cartoon gag submission to my college paper-- some of them feature characters I created; I even had the pleasure of drawing a few comics during college, including one for my Creative Writing class.

Looking at the bright side, I'll get better and better as I draw more. :)

Anyway, did you get a chance to read the final issues of the Darkwing Duck comics?

Nope. Never received copies.

It's funny, I was just thinking about your Emmaryn (Spryte) a couple days ago when I was thinking about the advice you gave me at SDCC about moving toward original creations. I've always hoped your concept for her would go further, I really like her design and the initial story you had posted for it. The spooky supernatural feel sort of reminds me of Hellboy (the animated features... I have not actually read the comics). I just love shows/comics about a world filled with mythical and supernatural beings!

For Rocket, I was actually going to point out that the designs on #4 and #3 gave me the "sidekick" impression, but then you pointed that out yourself in the description. I can't even put my finger on WHY the design brings out that "secondary character" vibe... something to do with the hair style. If that's what you were going for, it definitely worked.

I was going to recommend maybe adding goggles but then I looked back at your other post and saw the initial picture had that already. He'd look cool with some sort of signature accessory that hints at the time-frame you want to place him in... if you're going for a less confident character, maybe even an item that hinders confidence? Or acts like a security blanket?

I look forward to seeing you develop your original concepts. I'd love to someday read an original Tad Stones comic!

Excellent work! I love seeing artwork with so much life in it.

Sketch 1 and Sketch 3 are the definite standouts. It's almost tough not to visualize them as two different characters - as a duo. They compliment each other very nicely. It seems so natural. Maybe cliche... but natural.

Sketch 1 comes across as the most friendly, pleasant and innocent.
Sketch 2 is noticeably more mature with slightly less endearing facial features than 1.
Sketch 3 looks like he would bumble through his adventures with boyish optimism.
Sketch 4 seems more intelligent than 3 (not sure why) and further from the sidekick look.

I like them all! I could easily see each one as their own personality and character.

I like the top Rocket Sketch as well. I'm not as into the cocky lead character approach (such as Robin in the Teen Titans) but I still like the overall design. Thanks for sharing! I hope you're able to bring this character to life someday!
